An educated life

With two highly regarded universities, a choice of prestigious independent schools and a range of superb state schools that cater for children of all ages, it’s little wonder that Brighton & Hove is celebrated for its educational excellence.

An educated life

Home to one of the top five UK English all-girl boarding schools, education is highly prized within the city by the sea.

Roedean is an internationally renowned, multicultural girls school around 20 minutes away from The Goldstone Apartments, a striking white-washed Victorian manor house within a 120-acre cliff-top setting. With alumni from 86 countries, 50% of pupils come from overseas, with more than 19 languages spoken on campus.

Other prestigious schools within 20 minutes’ drive include Hurstpierpoint College, which welcomes boys and girls from pre-prep to A-level and Lancing College, which takes 13-18 year olds. Both are set within the Sussex countryside and offer a well-rounded education and extracurricular activities. Closer to home, Brighton College was ranked as the Top Co-educational School in England in 2019 and named Independent School of the Year by The Sunday Times.

There’s also a wide choice of reputable state schools in the area, including Varndean School, Cardinal Newman School and Hove Park School. Younger children can attend one of many primary schools including the Bilingual School or Brunswick School, and there are preparatory schools for Lancing College, Brighton College and Brighton Girls nearby. Brighton & Hove is home to two highly ranked universities, the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex, both of which offer degrees in a wide range of subjects.
